News and Information from Your
Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee Representative

All local Medicare carriers -- the company that actually pays claims on behalf of Medicare -- have a "carrier advisory committee."  The CAC is made up of representatives from various provider groups and medical specialties.  They review and discuss local policies administered by the carrier and bring forward problems or issues that need to be addressed.  For Illinois, our representative is William Lissner, MD.  Bill is a faculty member at Northwestern University Medical School and practices comprehensive ophthalmology at the Kraff Eye Institute in Chicago.

Dr. Lissner's CAC duties are ongoing, and we are pleased to share his activities and accomplishments on your behalf here.

  • 10/22/2013 -- Contacted the Medicare J6 region medical director concerning "undervalued" fee schedule for iStent.
  • 12/31/2013 -- Checked with the NGS medical director on the accuracy of the Medicare fee schedule posted online.  In particular, Dr. Lissner wanted to be sure that the recent Congressional action to "wave off" the 25% SGR cut was built into the fees posted by NGS.
  • 2/19/2014 -- Attended the Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee meeting.
