These identical bills are the sunset renewal of the Optometry Practice Act which occurs every 10 years. However, this proposed legislation would remove the longstanding provision that prohibits optometrists from performing surgery, and it also would authorize them to give injections in and around the eye, as well as IV fluorescein injections. A number of surgical procedures would continue to be not allowed.
